GETTING TO KNOW CIS: Shelly Gaskins

Here at CIS we are very proud of the amazing team members that we get to work with. One of the most dedicated people on our team is Shelly Gaskins. She’s been a part of the CIS team since 2012. Shelly has the ability to get things done, and we love her for that! The marketing team recently sat down with her to learn more about what makes her who she is.

How many positions have you had at CIS? What are they? Which did you like the best?
2 positions- Technical Designer and Director of Design.

They both coincide with each other. I’ve been in the furniture world for almost 19 years. I love being involved with projects from start to end. I enjoy the project meetings and creative aspects of populating an empty shell per the team’s vision. I would only get to do that in the technical designer role. Now that I have a split role as Director of Design/Technical Designer, I get to share my creativity and steps I’ve taken to maximize production on large projects and developing standard processes to ensure success. I think I’m getting the best of both roles in one package.

What’s your favorite thing about working at CIS?
I love the variety of office personalities and the overall work family.

What do you find most challenging about your job?
Managing time of course. Having the split the role can be rough at times but I love a challenge.

What’s the strangest job you’ve ever had, at CIS or outside of CIS?
I don’t think I have had any strange jobs. There have been some strange requests.

What’s your favorite thing to do outside of work?
I enjoy staying active and running. Also, I love spending time with my 7-year-old daughter, she keeps me on my toes. I love to laugh and enjoy a good comedy show.

What advice would you have for future CIS employees?
CIS is a great working family and every day is never the same and has a little different energy. Enjoy the experience.

Do you have an office nickname? If so, what?
I’ve been called “Hollywood” in the design department. There are times where I stroll into the department with my sunglasses on.

If someone made a movie about your life, what actress would you want to play you?
I think I’ll go with Halle Berry. I love her style and she has done a variety of movie genres.
